Get 'pun the wicket' at Hoytes Village

This Independence Day, get 'Pun The Wicket' with the Hoytes United Sports & Cultural Club at the Hoytes Village playing field.

The club will be hosting an all-day extravaganza of sports, culture and health activities, entitled ‘Pun the wicket – body and mind extravaganza’ in celebration of Barbados' 43rd anniversary of independence.

There will be a six-a-side tape ball cricket tournament among six teams from St. James: Shopsmart, Police, Sandy Lane Hotel and 3 Hoytes Village/Terrace/New Development teams.  They will be competing for the Melvin Worrell Memorial trophy.

Club President Colvin Mascoll told the NATION:
"We will also have free blood sugar testing, blood pressure checks, condom distribution and demonstration HIV education by HIV/Aids Commission, face painting for children and a cultural presentation."

The cultural presentation will feature line dancing, poetry reading, verse speaking, calypso singing and a ‘back in time’ competition.

This ‘back in time’ competition will showcase the best of yesteryear’s dressing, so attendees are encouraged to come out in their funkiest 1960’s outfits to have a chance at winning some of the many prizes on offer. (PR)
